Also
known as the bear cat, it is neither a bear nor a cat but in the same family
as the civet. Affectionately known as the 'Binty,' they walk flat footed like
a bear and their rear paws eerily resemble human feet - albeit furry ones with
long claws. Their ear hair far exceeds the size of their ears and protrudes
to the front. Binty's use their huge bushy tails as an extra hand and grip branches
with it at all times - even during sleep. It can support their entire body weight
if they happen to take a tumble. They are classified by the IUCN as being of
least concern in the lower risk category. Their greatest threat is of course
from man with both loss of habitat and hunting reducing their numbers.
